Drechtsteden: Connecting Rotterdam and Breda

Drechtsteden is the area southeast of Rotterdam connecting Rotterdam and Breda, and forms the gateway to Germany and beyond. It is traditionally an area with extensive knowledge and expertise about water, and home to inland shipping, dredging, logistics and related activities. The Drechtsteden is made up of six municipalities. Both in business and in government, these municipalities work closely together on the development of the region. Three elements are typical of Drechtsteden: Dordrecht’s historical city centre, the landscapes of Alblasserwaard, Hoeksche Waard and Biesbosch and of course water, with the accompanying maritime knowledge and expertise..
